Being in a long distance relationship comes with its ups and downs, but meeting that special someone in a place you haven’t visited is a major perk almost making you love the circumstances.
Portugal was on my list since many of my Portuguese friends became family. And, as you may know, your curiosity spikes and in turn want to know more about your families’ homeland. And so, the circumstances have allowed me to spontaneously decide to explore the undiscovered and very under-rated region of the Algarve.
And so after ten years of living 75 miles from Dublin, it was time to get to know the beautiful Irish capital – the home of Irish Whiskey, cobbled streets and classic pubs on the east coast of the green island of Ireland.
Next on my list: Denmark. As you can probably tell, I am on a whim of ticking the beautiful region of Northern Europe off my list. For that reason, it was time to visit Denmark, the alluring country of eternal hygge and the most happy city in the world – Copenhagen.
Copenhagen – a place full of pastel-coloured streets, compact layout and hundreds of bikes on every corner, has greeted me in the most magical and freezing way possible.
Hel yeah Finland! I finally found you amongst Europe and enjoyed your beauty in full winter swing. Thank you for a great yet freezing and utterly magical time. Do you want to hear why I loved you so much?
First of all, lets realise you’re actually pretty big for the size of your population. There are only approximately five million people in an area of 330,000 km²! To add to that, there are over 180,000 lakes and over 2 million saunas in the country. Pretty impressive if you ask me, Finland! Continue reading
Norway has been the first Scandinavian country I’ve visited not only this year but in my entire life. I’ve had my eyes on Norway, Sweden and Finland since forever, but I never came around to visiting as somehow these countries always seemed unreachable. How come? It might have been because of the cooler climate, or the absence of Scandinavia in media that delayed my visits for a while. Whatever it was is long gone now, as I finally took my first step on Nordic land, and I had the pleasure of discovering Oslo at its most colourful time of the year.
Although 2016 marks my 10th anniversary of living in Britain, I haven’t given up to the stereotype of a Spanish holiday once, until this year. There was no specific reason I haven’t visited in the past, other than my interests gravitating more towards city breaks and a cultural variety of things to do versus the sun, sand and sea situation in which resting is the number one priority. I prefer walking tours, man made attractions and architecture. This year I had an opportunity to experience both of the destination types of Spain, the coast of Costa Blanca and the city of Madrid.
Amsterdam. It is one of the greatest small cities in the world. From Amsterdam canals to world-famous Amsterdam museums and historical Amsterdam sights, it is one of the most romantic and beautiful cities in Europe.
Differentiating from anywhere else by legalisation of prostitution and Marijuana, it has been a place I’ve always been curious to see.
We’ve arrived at the Bruges train station to see it delayed. Me and Adam are a very chilled out couple so it was a minor issue. It was truly sad leaving Bruges… I fell in LOVE with it. However, I was BUZZING to ‘move on’ and discover Amsterdam.
I’ve never heard of Bruges. To be perfectly honest, I had no idea what did it look like or what was it famous for. With no research whatsoever, we decided to choose it over Brussels, as we liked the idea of the unknown.
The train journey from Paris to Bruges was long and stressful, or so we thought it was. With a few train changes and a lot of waiting getting a chance to discover a part of Lille on our way was a little bonus to pick us up.
Travelling. One word that can bring so much joy.
I always knew I wanted to see the world. At a very young age I would never even think I would be able to do what I have done this summer. To me, travelling always seemed luxurious, because honestly, it truly is. All the experiences and memories lie deep in your heart forever. This summer I was privileged to travel around Europe with someone special.
First destination: Paris
Day one: After eight months of planning, 25th of August has finally came. It felt like a dream. The realization has only hit me when we were ready to take off to our first night in Paris.
